Server Keeps Crashing
Step 1: Check the Crash Log
Go to Dashboard → Server → Console and scroll up to find error messages. Common patterns:
- "OutOfMemoryError" or "OOM" → Server needs more RAM. Upgrade your plan.
- "StackOverflow" → Usually caused by a broken mod or plugin
- "Segmentation Fault" → Game server binary issue, try reinstalling
- "Permission Denied" → File permissions issue, contact support
- "Port already in use" → Another process using the port, restart the container
- "Unable to access jarfile" → Corrupted server files, reinstall
Step 2: Check Resource Usage
In Dashboard → Server → Overview, check:
- RAM usage — If consistently above 90%, upgrade
- CPU usage — If peaking at 100%, upgrade to a higher plan
- Storage — If full, server can't save and will crash
Step 3: Recently Added Mods?
If you recently added mods, try:
- Remove the last mod you added
- Restart the server
- If stable, the mod was the issue
- Check mod compatibility and version requirements
- Add mods back one by one to find the problematic one
Step 4: Check for Corrupted World Data
- Try restoring from a recent backup
- For Minecraft: delete
level.dat_oldand check region files - For Rust: reset map with a new seed
- For ARK: verify save files aren't corrupted
Step 5: Try Vanilla
If nothing works:
- Create a backup of your server
- Reinstall the server (fresh install)
- Test without any mods
- Add mods back one by one
Auto-Restart (Watchdog)
GameHostCloud automatically restarts crashed servers within 30 seconds. If your server crashes repeatedly (5+ times in 10 minutes), the watchdog will pause and you'll get a notification.
